It’s remarkable how much Gambhir keeps picking up from Sehwag. The earlier traits which he picked up like running without grounding the bat were a touch detrimental but the latest developments have been mighty hearty. Sample this, “I think Rajasthan was never a threat. Except for Yusuf Pathan, the other guys were pretty ordinary. We weren’t really worried about anyone else”. Isn’t that music to the ears? A captain who doesn’t sound like a broken record ought to be acclaimed as a breath of fresh air, not berated by low-lifes like Lalit Modi. I’ve never been a big fan of the AB-hating-Gambhir but after this controversy, he’s gained my respect (Does it matter? Of course it doesn’t, I like stroking my ego).
That’s 3 wins on a trot now. The fact that the toss played a crucial role in the last two isn’t of any concern to the Daredevils. Their concern, if any, should be the running between the wickets. Seldom a game passes without a Daredevil being hung out to dry in the middle of the pitch. The main culprit might have been benched but Gambhir isn’t much better. Dinesh Karthik was the batting star this time around. These recoveries following an early batting collapse are becoming the norm for the Delhi-ites. If it was Warner and St.Paul before, it was Gauti and DK today.
Amit Mishra continued his good form with the looping ball and Warner did the uncommon as he took 4 catches and affected a run-out. Must be some sort of a record that, most fantasy points gained while fielding perhaps. Maharoof was the unlikely economic wicket picking bowler up front and once he notched up the figures of 3-0-13-2, there was no turning back for DD.
Looking ahead: My favorite team RCB shall pose an intriguing challenge in the next match. First up, the toss will be very interesting as RCB looks more comfortable chasing and the pitch is more comfortable defending. Seeing how DD were successful defending against RCB earlier and how Kumble is oblivious to his team’s chasing skills, I’m betting the toss winning skipper will elect to bat. Teams wise, Dan the man and Ross the boss coming in would be wonderful indeed.
