entropy, firs order entropy
A boxful of Dhakkans was unearthed late into the evening at Durban yesterday. The magnificence of these Dakkans cannot be captured by all the words of my vocabulary. So let us just take a look at the figures
End of over 16-> Required 29 from 24 with seven wickets in hand
They conspired to lose somehow from there on. They lost their last 7 wickets for 12 runs. KKR’s efforts the previous day (and even through out the tournament) don’t even make the cut when standards are set as high as these.
The good news for the supporters of the Dhakkans however is that this incredible loss might not be enough to hold them back from reaching the semis. Once they do reach there, they should be highly confident irrespective of today since they had beaten Delhi quite comprehensively to only refuse the victory. It was quite evident who the stronger team was. Delhi you have to say were just lucky. The way yesterday’s match went Delhi won’t be too happy to see DC up against them either in the semi or in the final. The latter case is purely fictional as CSK are sure to win the tournament unless they to do a DC off their own like they did against Delhi earlier when they bungled up chasing 190 having been comfortably placed.
Delhi have been quite fortunate thus far and it does look like this might be their year but the carefree attitude of their captain might just as well rub on to the team and they might fall short.
For a batsman coming in at no.s 3 and 4 and that too mostly after the powerplays, the runs notched up by AB are quite remarkable -315 from 8 innings with thrice unbeaten.
Only a few months back, Sunil Gavaskar while writing an article mentioned the names of Gambhir and AB in the same breadth and i was quite surprised at the generosity shown towards AB as he was, at that time, doing once every series what Gambhir was doing once every match.
A few months hence, the situation is simply the opposite. The way Gambhir has played so far in the IPL has been shocking. Patchy at best, he has failed again and again and the only fifty he’s scored has to be one of the ugliest fifties you will ever see. All the boundaries were streaky and all his attempts of getting out were thwarted by the hapless KKR fielders!
If selection were up to me, i would have brought in Sehwag for Gambhir as Sehwag at no.5 is not fruitful. Sure, he started his career at no.6 but those nascent days are well behind.
